About Nuno

Nuno Matos, the founder of Nuno Matos Equi-Precision, is an eminent figure in the world of equestrian sports. With a profound bond with horses and a wealth of knowledge in Classical Dressage and Working Equitation, Nuno empowers his students to achieve excellence. Through his gentle and systematic approach, he unites horse and rider, elevating their performance to new levels of refinement and precision. Nuno acquired his riding and training skills over many years, training, riding and competing Lusitanos. He has also trained with Pedro Torres and with several other great masters in Portugal, building on his experience working with horses at all levels. In addition to sharing his expertise with riders and competitors, Nuno is the Director of Breeding and Training at Wasatch Lusitanos in Petersburg, Tennessee. Nuno also has a family project breeding Lusitanos on his farm, Coudelaria Carvalho Matos, in Portugal. |

I’ve taken multiple clinics with Nuno Matos since first meeting him in 2015. He immediately impressed me with his sincere desire and ability to improve each horse and rider pair, creatively using exercises and practice obstacle runs based on his personal experience as a WE competitor in Portugal and developer of young horses. He pushed my personal boundaries as a rider of a hot Lusitano which allowed me to compete and succeed.
I was lucky enough to be coached by Nuno in several Working Equitation competitions . I learned that he’s a master strategist! What the best lines are, whether to loop this way or that, how to make the EOH ride look easy. As we walked the course for the Speed phase, he pointed out the best way to cut off seconds, how to approach each obstacle effectively. Coaching a strategy to ride a course requires experience, knowledge and ability to communicate well- all qualities that Nuno has !
